Community members and businesses should be reminded that it is not the practice of the Rhinebeck Central School District to employ the services of any company for the purpose of soliciting money from individuals or local businesses to support our programs or our students, or to otherwise authorize them to do so. Please be aware that this unethical practice has occurred in our area sporadically in past years, and as a new school year is ready to commence, the community is urged to be cautious if approached.

Swine Flu & back to school 2009

Swine flu prevention is part of back-to-school preparations

As school officials get ready for the return of teachers and students, they also are preparing for the potential resurgence of swine flu.

Officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the H1N1 flu, commonly known as the swine flu, has continued through the summer months. The concern is once schools are back in session there will be renewed opportunity for it to spread.

The Dutchess County Fair

For six days each August, the Dutchess Fairgrounds on Route 9 in Rhinebeck plays host to nearly half a million patrons for the Dutchess County Fair. Dutchess County’s Summer Youth Employment Program kick-off July 14

The Dutchess County Workforce Investment Board will receive over $300,000 for the 2008 Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Summer Youth Employment Program, which provides youth with summer jobs, a release said.

About 100 students ages 14 to 20 years old will be placed in positions that will enhance their skills. Students will also participate in educational sessions at Dutchess Community College.

The program will kick off with an opening ceremony at 9 a.m. July 14 at Dutchess Community College, 53 Pendell Road, Poughkeepsie.
